The body of a 45-year-old Thai tourist shot dead by a lone attacker who sprayed bullets into a crowd at Strasbourg’s famed Christmas market on Dec 11 arrived home on Saturday morning.
The coffin bearing Anupong Suebsaman, owner of a noodle factory in Chachoengsao province, arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport in Samut Prakan around 7am on Saturday.
His parents Sukree and Yoklang Suebsaman, his wife and other family members were at the airport to receive his body, which arrived on TG931 this morning.
Anupong, 45, was one of three people killed in the crowded market. Twelve other people were injured in the attack that took place about 8pm local time on Dec 11 in the heart of the medieval city in eastern France as the market was closing for the day.
Officials said Anupong died on his way to hospital. He and his wife had only just arrived in the city that day. His wife escaped the attack unhurt.
Two Buddhist monks invited by the victim’s family performed a religious ceremony at the air cargo facility as soon as the body arrived at the airport.
His grieving mother kept calling for the spirit of her slain son to return home while the monks performed the religious rite.
After that, his body was taken to a van. Led by a police car, the van left for his home province of Chachoengsao. The family is preparing a funeral ceremony at Wat Thepminit in Muang district of this eastern province.
