MOHALI: Police have arrested gangster Harbir Singh Sohal from his hideout in Kharar and recovered two .30 caliber Chinese pistols, three magazines, 50 live cartridges and four 9 mm pistol magazines.
Sohal, a singer and lyricist, was a close aide of slain gangsters Jaipal Singh Bhullar and Jasprit Singh Jassi. Both were shot dead in a police operation in Kolkata in June last year.
Acting on secret information, police raided the Kharar hideout. While Sohal, a resident of Pindi Aulakh village, Amritsar, was nabbed, his accomplice Amritpal Singh alias Satta of Bassi Pathana, Fatehgarh Sahib, escaped.
Arshdeep Singh alias Arash Dalla from Dalla village in Moga and based in Canada and his associate Gurjant Singh alias Janta from Sohavi village in Fatehgarh Sahib and based in Australia were handling the two accused. They were giving extortions calls from abroad and Sohal and Amritpal were collecting the money, cops said.

A case under different sections of the IPC and arms act was registered at the Kharar city police station.
