Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without essentials such as mulled wine, advent calendars, turkey and the sound of Noddy Holder screeching ‘It’s Chriiisstmasss’ from a stereo somewhere.
However, the Slade frontman wants to remind festive revellers he doesn’t live in a cave from January to November.
Holder made the comments when telling The Guardian of the various offers he receives as Christmas approaches.
He said: “I do appear as Santa for charity, real reindeer and everything, but people think I live in a cave all year and come out in December, shouting: “It’s Chriiisstmasss!”
Holder was, of course, referring to the band’s hit Merry Xmas Everybody which reached the coveted Christmas Number One spot in 1973.
Over 40 years later, the band continue to reap the benefits.
When asked whether the song earns a reported £500,000 each year the 69-year-old said: “So they say! It’s a good pension plan, put it that way.”
“We had 40-odd hits and people still think the Christmas record was the one, but it’s been good to us.”
The single was the band’s biggest selling record and sold over a million copies in its first release.
Last year the single was the most streamed festive song on Spotify, beating Lonely This Christmas by Mud and Winter Wonderland by Bing Crosby.
