Slack was down — live updates as service is restored

Slack.

The massive chat platform Slack was dealing with an outage today. It was a quick one as reports on Downdetector absolutely exploded with remote workers wondering why they couldn't connect with their coworkers.

Slack has acknowledged the outage on its status page, stating that users may experience "Trouble connecting to or loading Slack." It has since been fixed

I can say firsthand that Slack gave me issues, with messages being delayed or not going through at all. However, it came back in short order.

Literally thousands of people have jumped to Down Detector to report problems with the popular work chat app. As of this post, the reports are up to 15,000, which is an absurd number for an outage that's so early.

Slack updated it's status page saying, "Trouble connecting to or loading Slack."

Slack's incident page says Connectivity is affected and that the impact to end users will be "Some users may have trouble connecting to or loading Slack."

The update, posted at 1:26 P.M. ET, also adds that "We'll provide an update within 30 minutes including further details on current actions being taken."

A drop as big as the spike

Just as quickly as Slack rose to almost 15,000 reports, it dropped to less than 2,000.

What people are saying

While this outage appears to have been very quick for most people (at least, based on Downdetector reports), it definitely impacted the work flow of some people. For example, one Downdetector user said, "Cant post to threads, channels are slow to load, messages are slow to send."

While the user reports are dropping quickly, Slack is still seeing some issues, as acknowledged by the company. The latest report on the status page says "We've identified the cause and are seeing signs of improvement. Users may be able to connect to Slack again, but we're still working toward a full resolution."

Slack says there's no timeline for things to be fully resolved, but based on user reports and our own experience, it seems like things are already mostly back to normal.

The reports are more or less down to a level where can call this outage over for all but a select few people.
