The cover art for Animal Collective’s Centipede HZ album is the digitally reanimated corpse of the Rocky Horror mouth. The Sims 3: Supernatural is a southern gothic incarnation of the game that simulates suburban life. Though the immediate reference here is True Blood, its fusion of homely Americana and sinister chills can trace a direct lineage to Grant Wood’s classic portrait of the grim-faced, pitchfork-bearing farmer couple, American Gothic.
