Skydiving grandma's reason for signing up to wingwalk challenge will have you in stitches

A 80-year-old grandma who took part in a skydive just last year has announced that she is preparing for another daredevil stunt in 2020.

Pat Normington, who admits herself that she is "crackers", threw herself out of a plane last year to raise money for Yorkshire Breast Cancer Haven.

It seems that she is now a fully-fledged adrenaline junkie and the grandma-of-three has signed up for yet another wild activity later this year.

On Friday, May 15, Pat will be strapped to the wing of a Boeing Stearman biplane for a wingwalk as the aircraft takes to the skies.

'A guy was stuck onto a plane in the air – I thought, I want to do that!'

"I've always been crackers and I love motorbikes," said Pat, from Wharfedale.

"I enjoyed the skydive and wanted to be back in the air. I saw an advert on the telly for glue – a guy was stuck onto a plane in the air – I thought, I want to do that!

"My youngest granddaughter thinks it's amazing and especially at my age. She wants to join me!"

Pat will raise money for the charity after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2018.

Following treatment, Pat was directed to her local Breast Cancer Haven centre in Leeds, where she received free counselling and reflexology to help her manage the emotional toll that the disease takes.

She has raised more than £3,000 to date, but is hoping that her latest wacky adventure will encourage more people to give what they can.

"I want to raise as much as I can," said Pat. "People don’t realise the importance of the service Breast Cancer Haven give. I want to give something back."

Pat has already got her eyes on her next big challenge and will be looking to call upon one of the world's most famous sports stars to help her achieve her dream.

"I want to drive Lewis Hamilton's racing car," she said. "I've sent him a letter!"
