The Sky on Thursday waived second-round pick Chloe Jackson.
A corresponding move is expected to be announced Thursday afternoon.
Jackson, the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft, was an athletic point guard, but her style of play didn’t fit coach James Wade’s system. With Gabby Williams assuming the role as back-up to point guard Jamierra Faulkner, Jackson didn’t have an opportunity to earn consistent minutes.
This season, Jackson played in only eight games, recording a combined five points, five steals, six rebounds and four assists.
“It’s a little surprising,” Jackson previously said of her lack of playing time. “I knew I wouldn’t be this star or starting, but I thought I could contribute a little more to the team this year.”
After the news broke, Jackson, who celebrated her 23rd birthday Wednesday, tweeted: “Everything happens for a reason.. (sic) never doubt it for a second.”
The fifth-place Sky (16-11) have an opportunity to clinch their first playoff berth since 2016 Thursday night. If the Fever or Wings lose their respective games, the Sky would officially be in.
The Sky will host former star Elena Delle Donne and the Mystics Friday at Wintrust Arena. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
