Sky TV prices soar but there's now a much cheaper way to watch telly through your dish

If the recent price hikes have got you thinking about switching off premium TV, there’s currently a deal that’s definitely worth considering. Freesat uses your existing dish to beam shows, movies and entertainment straight to your telly and, the best part is, it’s totally free to use. That means you won’t face a nasty monthly bill or be tied into a long-term contract you can’t get out of.

It’s an enticing solution but there is one problem as you will need to splash out on a new set-top box to get access to the Freesat service.

These devices can be pretty pricey but if you act fast there’s currently a discount which makes switching over to Freesat a little cheaper.

The firm is running a promotion which is knocking £30 off of its 500GB device. This gadget can record hours of TV plus you can pause and rewind live footage on the screen.

There’s also access to 170 channels which can all be viewed without the need for an expensive subscription. The only thing you won't be able to watch are premium services such as Sky Sports, Sky Cinema or BT Sport.

If those channels sound like something you can live without then you’ll need to act fast. Freesat has confirmed that the deal only lasts until April 21. Things will then go back to the usual £229.99 price.

You can find the discount on Freesat's website but other retailers including Currys are also running the discount.

Not to be outdone, BT and Sky are also both running promotions right now.

BT is dishing out Sky channels and Netflix for just £1 with this incredible deal lasting for the first 6 months of the 24-month contract. It's available to new and existing users who are signed up for the firm's broadband service.

Sky has also launched a deal that includes its Stream box plus broadband and TV channels for the lowest-ever price. That means you'll pay just £38 per month instead of the usual £44.

The bonus of switching to Stream is that you don't need a dish as all of Sky's content is delivered via the internet - that's means no fussy set-up or annoying installation.
