Sky TV may have installed a major upgrade to your system While you slept

Avid television viewers who use Sky equipment may be waking up today (Sunday, Nov 20) to find a major upgrade has taken place overnight on their equipment.

It follows an announcement by the media company in October that some big changes were on their way to Glass TV subscribers and to those using the all-new Stream box device. But it seems that from today the company is unleashing upgrades to customers across the UK. Updates are said to have taken place automatically for Sky Glass television and streaming box users, reports The Express.

Among the big changes are improvements to the Playlist recordings function, which suffered a few technical glitches when it was launched. It meant that some of the most recent shows to have been aired failed to appear high up in the list, forcing users to scroll through dozens of shows to find the most recent one. According to Sky, this has now been fixed.

Programmes should also be easier to access with a new "most recent" banner at the top of the screen that displays all the latest shows. The Playlist feature is also being moved up the home screen to a more prominent position.

Another new feature — and one of the most demanded by viewers — is a Bluetooth facility, which should let Sky Glass subscribers watch TV using wireless headphones, so people can watch films at a reasonable volume without disturbing those around them.

The upgrade promises easier searches for recent shows and a personalised list of programmes (Sky)

Sky is also promising more features by Christmas, including personalised lists, which will recommend films and shows based on your own tastes. The idea is for adults not to be bombarded with children's programmes, while the kids should be protected from anything that could be labelled as inappropriate for minors.

The company is also boosting its Sky Glass visuals via a new "vivid mode" via the options menu, making pictures more punchy and richer in colours.

The news comes as the Sky Glass system lowered the prices for its sets in the Black Friday sales in order to boost subscriber numbers.
