Sky TV customers can now access their recordings through the Sky Go app

Sky has released a new version of the Sky Go app that allows Sky TV customers to access recordings on their mobile devices.

This was previously the only major difference between the Sky Go app and the Sky Q app, which launched alongside the Sky Q set top box in 2015. As a result, the Sky Q app will be discontinued.

Sky notes that the recording functionality on the Sky Go app is available to Sky Q Multiscreen customers only - which is the case now on the Sky Q app.

To activate the app's Recordings feature, customers must connect the app to their Sky Q box.

As well as allowing customers to view and control upcoming recordings, the new Sky Go app allows Sky TV customers to access a host of live and on-demand services from the likes of ITV and Channel 4, as well as Sky's own channels.

The app's user interface has also been revamped, with content divided into 'Home', 'TV Guide', 'Browse', 'Downloads' and 'Recordings', to help customers find what they want to watch quickly and easily.

The 'Browse' page provides viewing by theme and genre, aggregating content across all channels on Sky Go.

There are also personalised Sky Cinema recommendations, suggesting movies based on genre, 'Because you watched', and 'More like this'.

Enhanced accessibility and better navigation features make it easier for visually impaired customers to use the app.

For example, the video player has been improved so that they can now pause and skip the videos.

Voiceover also lets customers hear a description of everything they click on, font size can be increased without losing functionality and colours can be inverted for greater contrast.

The new Sky Go app will be rolled out to customers in phases across the summer.

It will be available on iOS, Android, Amazon Fire devices and Amazon app store as well as on PC and Mac.

Customers will be able to update their existing app, or download the new version from the Google Play, Apple and Amazon app stores for free.
