Sky TV £135 warning to anyone thinking of changing service

As the cost of living crisis hits some people may be cancelling their Sky TV subscriptions or trying to find a cheaper provider.

But what many people may not be aware of is that they can be charged if they don't follow the terms and conditions. Sky says that if you’re leaving Sky Q, changing your subscription, or need a new box, you’ll need to return the equipment you loaned from them when you first signed up with them.

Failure to do so can result in charges ranging from £35 right up to £135. It all depends on what equipment you were given.

Sky's website said: "If you don’t return this equipment within the time frame given, you’ll have to pay a Non-Return charge. We'll contact you to let you know if you need to pay these charges and how much they are."

However there are also some exemptions to the rule as they added: "If you've contacted us before about a recent bereavement and we've asked you to return the Sky owned equipment, then no charges will apply." The streaming company added: "Not returning your equipment, and then not paying subsequent bills can affect your credit score."

What you'll be charged if you don't return Sky equipment

  • Sky Q 1TB box - £115
  • Sky Q 2TB box - £135
  • Sky Q Mini box - £50
  • Sky Q Hub/Sky Broadband Hub - £50
  • Sky Broadband Booster - £35

It is important to note that you’ll be charged for every piece of equipment you don't return. For example, if you didn't return a Sky Q 2TB box, two Sky Q Mini boxes and a Sky Q Hub, you would be charged £270 in total.

Paying a Non-return charge also doesn’t buy the equipment, it’s just a cost for not returning. It will still be Sky owned and they will still want you to return it.
