Sky Sports to show re-run of Newcastle United's famous defeat at Liverpool

Newcastle United fans desperate for their football fix can relive that famous defeat at Liverpool in it's entirety.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest ever Premier League matches, Friday marks the 24th anniversary of that iconic clash at Anfield.

The Magpies arrived on Merseyside three points adrift of league leaders Manchester United and desperate to resurrect a faltering title bid.

Speaking to Sky Sports in the build-up, United defender Steve Howey said: "Pretty much the whole country, as well as those around the world, are going to be watching it.

"We are both teams, particularly us, who like to play attractive football on the front foot.

"We know we could go there and get something because we have confidence in our ability and as a team.

"But we know as well that Liverpool are very dangerous with the players that they have."

However, Liverpool had title designs of their own and edged a memorable contest courtesy of Stan Collymore's stoppage-time winner.

Les Ferdinand, David Ginola, and Tino Asprilla all netted for the Magpies, but the match came to be defined by the image of Kevin Keegan slumped over the advertising hoardings in a defining moment in the title race.

To mark the anniversary in the absence of the suspended football decision, Sky Sports has decided to broadcast the famous match in it's entirety on Friday night.

Any Newcastle fans keen to relive the encounter can tune in to Sky Sports' Premier League and Main Event channels from 7.30pm.
