Sky Sports red button Championship coverage explained as Nottingham Forest season restarts with key changes

Nottingham Forest resume their Championship campaign this weekend with nine matches left to go for each team in a race to the end of the season.

The 2019/20 campaign recommences on Saturday (June 20) after being put on the back burner for more than three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

When the action returns it will be a different experience for players and fans alike, with matches taking place behind closed doors in empty stadiums and supporters watching from home.

The televising of matches will be crucial in the coming month for Forest fans to follow the fortunes of Sabri lamouchi's side, and is being done in a few ways.

A total of 108 matches are still to be played and 30 of these will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.

The remainder of the games will be broadcast via a club’s iFollow service, while Sky’s live matches will also be available to the EFL’s overseas broadcasters via their partnership with Pitch International.

Quest will also provide extended highlights on both Saturday evenings and midweek, whilst talkSPORT will provide exclusive national radio commentary on some matches.

And for fans wanting to watch the action live on iFollow from home can do so on TV, as well as phones, laptops or tablets.

Most modern laptops can be easily plugged into a TV via an HDMI connection, which is standard on practically all HD TVs. If your TV is flatscreen, it almost certainly has an HDMI connection.

If your computer has one of these sockets then you should be able to get an appropriate adapter or cable online for something like £15, give or take a few quid.

However, there will be a slight change in the way midweek fixtures have been televised in recent years when the action recommences.

In the past, games on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening in the Championship when there has been a full fixture list have been made available to watch live on Sky Sports via the red button.

The games have been available to see on either TVs or mobiles.

But, though there are plenty of midweek games due to take place over the next month between June 20 and July 22, the red button will not be an option to watch any match you want on these occasions.

Sky Sports will only be showing the 30 games they have announced on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.

For the remaining matches, fans will be able to watch through their own club’s iFollow service or equivalent streaming platform.

Some clubs have offered iFollow free to existing season ticket holders, though fans are advised to check with their club to see what their policy is on this matter.

Clubs may offer this instead of a pro-rata refund of season tickets for the matches still to be played which fans can no longer attend in person.

Fans of Championship teams who are not season ticket holders and want to watch games involving their club which are not going to be shown on Sky Sports can purchase an iFollow match pass for each game, which £10 per match.

If not already done so, fans will also need to register for an iFollow account.
