Sky Sports pundit's verdict on Manuel Pellegrini's future at West Ham following Arsenal defeat

Jamie Carragher believes it will be hard for Manuel Pellegrini to turn things around at West Ham.

The Hammers are still without a home win since their 2-0 success over Manchester United in mid-September, with a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on Monday night the latest set-back for Pellegrini’s side.

Pressure is continuing to grow on the former Manchester City boss, with him one of the favourites with the bookies to be the next manager sacked.

And Carragher believes Pellegrini’s biggest problem is that his side are slipping closer to the relegation zone.

"It’s going to be difficult. There’s been a lot of clubs at this moment in the Premier League talking of changing their manager, some of them have, and I think the result at Chelsea was a huge one,” the former Liverpool man said.

"Rafa has just mentioned that one week in football can change a lot but to then lose in midweek and then lose another home game to an Arsenal team who, yes they’re a bigger club than West Ham, but they’re not at their best, it was a great opportunity for them.

"To go 1-0 up then lose 3-1, it’s a really bad night for West Ham.

"I don’t really like changing managers in a season and I can only understand it when there is the feel of relegation and they take a chance by changing something because there is so much money in the Premier League now.

“That’s Manuel Pellegrini’s big problem, they are getting very close to that relegation zone and the fixture they’ve got next week at Southampton, if he’s in charge for it, if they lose, that’s massive.”
