Sky Sports pundit's promotion warning for Leeds United after Derby County draw

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has insisted Leeds United cannot afford to let history repeat itself if they want to be promoted to the Premier League this season.

The Whites were guilty of giving up two points yesterday after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser against Derby County.

United dominated proceedings and passed up several gilt-edged opportunities to double their one-goal advantage, none more so than Mateusz Klich's missed penalty.

They were made to pay for their slack finishing as Chris Martin sealed a 1-1 draw late on, which even the most biased Derby fan would struggle to admit they deserved.

It was deja vu for most of the Elland Road faithful, who had already seen Nottingham Forest and Swansea City steal late points after United failed to put their opponents to the sword.

Whilse away from home the job is so easy at the moment, their struggles to finish off inferior opponents in West Yorkshire continues.

It was theme last season which cost Marcelo Bielsa's side promotion.

Hasselbaink pointed to the most obvious fixtures which spring to mind, Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic last term, where Leeds dominated proceedings but lost both fixtures.

Results of that nature ultimately cost them promotion and the former United number nine has insisted they can't allow history to repeat itself.

"You have to be more mature," Hasselbaink told Sky Sports as part of their punditry team for the Derby County fixture.

"Yes, you can be dominant here [Elland Road], but you have to win these games.

"Last season, against Ipswich [Town], against 10-man Wigan and Sheffield United. Totally dominant.

"You can't do that again this season. You are not going to earn promotion if you do."
