Sky Sports pundit makes surprise claim about what Arsenal missed in draw against Crystal Palace

Jamie Redknapp believes having no supporters in the Emirates Stadium had a negative impact on Arsenal in their goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

The Gunners were held at home to their London rivals, where they struggled to create too many clear-cut chances.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a chance in the first-half but was denied by Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, with the Eagles also having opportunities.

James Tomkins hit the crossbar with a header just before half-time, which proved to be the visitors' best chance on the night.

It wasn't the Arsenal we'd seen in recent weeks, which can partly be put down to Kieran Tierney's absence.

Mikel Arteta revealed before the game that Tierney was missing due to muscular soreness and when speaking after the match, the Gunners boss wasn't sure if he'd be back for the trip of Newcastle United on Monday.

However, it wasn't just the Scotland international's absence that impacted the north London club, according to Redknapp.

The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder believes the lack of supporters is starting to take its toll on Arteta 's side.

Premier League matches are being played behind closed doors at the moment, with the whole country on a full lockdown.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: " I don’t like to make excuses for players, but that was one of those games where you need the crowd - you really do.

"Sometimes, just for someone to make a challenge, or do something, run into an area that they might not normally, it just felt very difficult.

"I’m not making excuses for them because they’re in a very privileged position to be playing football, but there does come a time when without the crowd, it’s monotonous; it’s not like you’re playing in a game, it feels like a training session all of the time.”
