Sky Sports presenter David Jones claimed that Manchester United fans "threw missiles" at them after breaking into Old Trafford.
Around 10,000 fans were expected outside the ground to protest at the Glazer family and their ownership ahead of their match against Liverpool, with a number breaking into the stadium and onto the pitch.
The Premier League insisted that there were no COVID-19 breaches as supporters didn't infiltrate the dressing room but with thousands still outside Old Trafford, both sets of players are still at their respective hotels.
The match is due to kick-off at 4:30pm and whilst there has been no official confirmation of a delay, it seems incredibly unlikely the match will get underway as scheduled.
With Sky Sports pitched up at Old Trafford covering the game as part of their live coverage, presenter Jones claimed that missiles were thrown in their direction after fans walked onto the playing surface.
“As you were watching the first-half at St. James’ Park, we were witnessing this growing protest at Old Trafford, where it seems the intent is to get the game between Manchester United and Liverpool abandoned this afternoon," Jones said during the half-time interval of Newcastle United vs Arsenal.
"They don’t want it to go ahead at all. Literally, we witnessed the protest because somehow they managed to get themselves in hundreds onto the pitch here at Old Trafford to continue their demonstration, it seems against the Glazer family and their ownership of Manchester United - and then, as quickly as they appeared, threw a couple of missiles in our direction, they dispersed again.
"This is the scene now, litter is being cleared from the pitch. The game, as far as the Premier League is concerned, is going ahead as planned.
"Whether that is possible or not, whether the teams can actually get in here, whether they can get away from their hotels to get to the ground, is another matter.”
He then added: “What incredible scenes already here at Old Trafford this afternoon, where several hundred protesters have stormed inside the stadium and made their protests felt against the Glazers and their ownership of Manchester United after the European Super League protests of a couple of weeks ago collapsed in spectacular fashion.
"Those protests have been moved back outside, the teams we understand will only leave their hotels when they’re happy that the stadium and its perimeter is secured and we have no idea right now of when that will be. The Premier League are saying that the game is still planned to go ahead at 4:30 this afternoon.”
