Sky Sports issue apology after Patrice Evra comment before Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Sky Sports issued an apology following Manchester United's 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace in regards to comments made before the match by former defender Patrice Evra.

United kicked off their Premier League campaign with a loss for the first time in six years after goals from Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha. Summer signing Donny van de Beek started on the bench but scored after being introduced in the second-half.

United were on the receiving end of a dubious VAR call which left supporters furious but did not deserve anything from the game.

Both Evra and Graeme Souness blasted the use of technology and United's performance after the game before Sky issued an apology in response to a remark made by the Frenchman prior to kick-off.

The statement read: "We have to clarify a comment made earlier in the programme suggesting there may have been a relationship between Wilfried Zaha and David Moyes' daughter.

"We understand that Wilfried Zaha has never met David Moyes' daughter and that the claim made by Patrice was false. We apologise for any offence caused."

Speaking at half-time, Evra criticised United defender Luke Shaw for his role in Palace's opening goal as he allowed Townsend a simple finish at the back post.

He said: "I think it's laziness, he's guessing and that's the worst. I've made those mistakes where someone is crossing the ball and I'm not running. You have to be in line with your centre-backs and then you have to sprint to be on the same line as Lindelof.

"You can see he's guessing. I call it laziness. Maybe Luke Shaw has been injured and he doesn't have the same speed because when I was guessing it's because I was trusting my speed.

"Maybe now he has to adapt his game because he's not as fast as he used to be. He can't guess anymore."
