Sky Sports customers left frustrated as they are still unable to pause subscriptions

Sky Sports customers have been left frustrated after having problems with suspending their package for free.

Sky announced earlier last week that customers could pause their sports subscription for the time being free of charge due to reduced coverage.

Customers had only been able to do so via telephone initially, but viewers can now pause their packages online for no charge.

The clamour to pause subscriptions follows the news that there will be no professional football played until at least April 30, after it was agreed to extend a coronavirus-related suspension of the 2019/20 season.

Despite this, many people have taken to social media to say that they are unable to suspend their package online due to technical difficulties.

Neil Pugh tweeted: “Haven’t been able to get the ‘pause Sky Sports’ webpage do anything but get to the ‘spinning blue circle’ stage, what’s going on please?.”

Michael Hemms added: “Why doesn’t Sky simply pause sky sports subs for everyone NOW? Why give us the runaround with websites that don’t work and risk customer goodwill?.”

Sport fans are also claiming that the phone lines are engaged, leaving them unable to cancel by telephone.

“Disgusting that @SkyUK publish you can pause @SkySports yet I’ve tried multiple times online but get an error message and the lines are engaged,” Tori Harris said.

Sky has been responding to customers on its Twitter account and said it had been incredibly busy.

One message from Sky read: “Please keep trying to pause your Sky Sports subscription online at http://sky.com/pausesports The website is incredibly busy and we ask that you try either in the morning or in the evening to avoid traffic.”

Those who suspend will have their payment paused until the action resumes, Sky said, and recordings would remain available.

Sky has been approached for further comment.
