Teams waives guards Linnae Harper and Hind Ben Abdelkader along with forward Victoria Macaulay to reach limit.
The Sky is officially ready to begin the 2019 WNBA regular season.
To complete the final roster Thursday, the team waived guards Linnae Harper and Hind Ben Abdelkader. The moves come after the Sky waived forward Victoria Macaulay on Wednesday. All the moves trimmed the roster to 12 players by Thursday’s deadline.
Harper, a Chicago native who attended Whitney Young High School from 2009-2013 and signed with the team after not being selected in the 2018 WNBA Draft, averaged two points and one assist last season. She missed all three of her field-goal attempts, grabbed three rebounds and added an assist in the Sky’s two preseason games against the Fever last week.
Ben Abdelkader joined the Sky on March 18. She played 14 games and averaged 2.1 points and one rebound in 10.2 minutes with the Indiana Fever during the 2018 season before being waived on July 1. Ben Abdelkader had three turnovers, two assists and one point in 22 minutes during the Sky’s preseason games against her former team.
Macaulay’s second stint with the Sky was brief. She signed a training-camp contract on Feb. 20 after playing in four regular-season games with the Sky in 2015. Macaulay scored 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting in the Sky’s second preseason game against the Fever on May 16.
The Sky will open the 2019 regular season against the Minnesota Lynx 7 p.m. Saturday at the Target Center.
