Sky's new documentary series on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein starts very soon

Sky's new three-part documentary series on Ghislaine Maxwell and her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein will air on June 27.

As the synopsis states: "Ghislaine Maxwell: Epstein’s Shadow investigates the powerful, connected, and mysterious Ghislaine Maxwell, who was once the heiress to the Maxwell fortune but whose life is rocked by a series of scandals and accusations when she meets Jeffrey Epstein, the serial sex offender.

"Over three parts, the series will untangle the complicated story of power, sex, and money, leading to Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest and pointing to her upcoming trial."

Earlier this month, Maxwell was denied bail for a fifth time by a New York judge.

The judge rejected her latest attempt to be let out of a Brooklyn prison until her trial, which is due to start in November.

Maxwell was arrested in July 2020 and was charged with enticement of minors, sex trafficking, and perjury.

Maxwell faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted over her alleged role in procuring four underage girls for the financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse between 1994 and 2004.

She has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges. Her trial is scheduled to start in November and the opening statements are set to be made late in the month.

Epstein killed himself in a federal Manhattan lock-up in August 2019 while he awaited a sex trafficking trial. The medical examiner ruled that he died by suicide. However, Epstein's lawyers dispute this.

Maxwell’s lawyers have argued she has been mistreated at a federal jail in Brooklyn, though prosecutors dispute the allegations.

The first episode of the series airs at 9pm on Sunday, June 27 on Sky Documentaries and it will also be available to watch on NOW.

Speaking ahead of the new documentary, a Sky spokesperson said: "The three-hour documentary investigates the powerful, connected, and mysterious Ghislaine Maxwell, who was once the heiress to the Maxwell fortune but whose life is rocked by a series of scandals and accusations when she meets Jeffrey Epstein, the serial sex offender."

They continued: "The series will untangle the complicated story of power, sex, and money, leading to Ghislaine Maxwell's arrest and pointing to her upcoming trial."
