Sky's Broadband Buddy app lets parents PAUSE the internet for their kids

If you have children, you’ll probably know the struggle of getting them to do their homework - especially with the distractions of smartphones and tablets around.

To help, Sky has launched a new app called Sky Broadband Buddy, which lets parents temporarily pause the internet on their children’s devices.

The app, which is part of Sky’s new Boost package, can be used to manage internet usage for all the family, including pausing the internet on specific devices, or for the whole home.

Parents can also monitor and manage their children’s screen time, including which apps they have access to.

Other helpful features include the ability to set bedtimes, and to reward good behaviour with additional time online.

While several other parental control apps already exist, Sky Broadband Buddy differs to most in that it can be used in the home via WiFi, or out and about, via 3G or 4G.

Stephen van Rooyen, CEO of Sky UK & Ireland, said: “At Sky, we connect families to content they love so it is our responsibility to make sure they can do this safely.

“Sky Broadband Buddy is an easy way to manage and monitor children’s internet usage, and pausing the internet is a great way to ensure you can enjoy family time free from screen time – for both children and adults!”

The app is available on both iOS and Android as part of the Sky Broadband Boost pack. This can be added to new and existing Sky Broadband packages, and costs £2.50/month.
