Sky pundit perfectly sums up Charlton's disastrous own goal against Sunderland in one sentence

It was the afternoon that Charlton have been working towards all season, but as we've learned football can be a cruel sport.

The League One play-off final with Sunderland would decide who which of the two sides would return to the Championship, and while the Addicks looked motivated and self-assured during the warm-up, it appears that lady luck had other ideas.

Lee Bowyer's side were just five minutes into their biggest game in several years when calamity struck in the form of a goalkeeping blunder.

Naby Sarr picked up the ball on the edge of the Charlton penalty area and played a simple ball back to Dillon Phillips between the sticks.

Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration saw the ball roll under Phillips' foot and crawl into the back of the Charlton net.

No one at Wembley could comprehend what happened in a game of such magnitude, with even  Sky Sport co-commentator Don Goodman seemingly lost for words.

"That is just unbelievable," the former Wolves striker said, speaking in commentary during Sky Sports' coverage of the game.

"I don't think I can believe what I have just seen. My goodness me, that is heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking. The goalkeeper just totally misjudges it. Wow!"
