Graeme Souness believes Matteo Guendouzi could have been sent off for his role in a scuffle with Jose Holebas against Watford.
With Arsenal leading 2-0, a small ruckus broke out between both sets of players just before the half-time whistle.
Nicolas Pepe took offence at Holebas' challenge, sparking a huge tussle between both teams.
Guendouzi was the first Arsenal player to come wading in to support Pepe and appeared to raise his arm towards the Greek defender.
Referee Anthony Taylor opted to book both Guendouzi and Holebas for their role in the scuffle, whilst VAR didn't advise the referee to send off either player.
Despite the officials' view and the general consensus that it nothing more than handbags, Souness believes the young Frenchman was "lucky" to stay on the field.
Speaking to Sky Sports at half time, he said: "It's never nice getting one in the chops, is it? Eat this for your late lunch.
"He pulls away and then, listen I'm sure we've (Tim Cahill) been in that situation before. For me, he pulls it away and then goes back again and he knows what he's doing.
"I think he's been lucky."
The Gunners led the Hornets 2-0 at the break, thanks to a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, goals from Tom Cleverley and Roberto Pereyra saw them snatch a point with a spirited second-half comeback.
