Sky News presenter breaks down in tears as she reads coronavirus victims' names

A Sky News presenter became emotional during a broadcast about the 20,319 coronavirus deaths in the UK tonight.

Kimberley Leonard spoke about the victims of the Covid-19 virus, concentrating on a handful of personal stories.

She said: "We know that the oldest person to die from coronavirus was 108, the youngest - just five years old.

"A loving husband to his wife Maureen, Gordon William Martin was from Greater Manchester and had a range of jobs throughout his career. He played cricket in his younger years and left a family who loved him deeply."

She continued: "Pharmacist Pooja Sharma died a day after her father, both passing away from Covid-19."

Kimberley seemed upset and her voice began to shake as she said: "Paying tribute to their friend, her loved ones said her laugh was contagious and that she gave her friends nothing but love, support and a tummy ache with all the laughter."

Pausing, the presenter gathered herself together and continued: "Shirley Brown was from Kent and she was known to everyone as Debbie.

"She was a grandmother of six and she enjoyed making arts and crafts."

The presenter seemed close to tears by the end of the broadcast and whispered: "Thank you."

This comes after the Department of Health confirmed 813 new deaths, taking the hospital death toll to over 20,000.

Speaking at the daily Downing Street briefing, Professor Stephen Powis, of NHS England, called it a "sad day" and warned: "This is something we are going to have to continue working our way through over the months ahead."
