Sky News presenter Adam Boulton was heard discussing his breakfast during a live broadcast of this morning's political chaos in Westminster.

The broadcaster was speaking to a colleague as the channel returned from a break in its coverage of Wednesday's confidence vote in Theresa May.

He seemed to complain that his porridge had gone cold amid the rush of Brexit news this morning.

"I did buy some porridge but it's cool," he said before trailing off as he realised he was on air.

Mr Boulton quickly changed the subject back to Brexit, telling viewers that they were looking at the Prime Minister as she delivered her defiant statement vowing to fight the upcoming leadership election.

Mrs May gave an early-morning statement on Wednesday after rebel Tory MPs reached the number of letters of no confidence required to trigger a confidence vote in her leadership.

In the clip Mr Boulton and a colleague are heard discussing their breakfast as Sky News cameras were focused on the door of Number 10.

He is offered some food but declines, saying "I'm fine for now, thanks, I did buy some porridge this morning."

He begins to say "but it's cool," but appears to realise that he is on air over recorded footage of Mrs May emerging from No10 to give her statement.

"Well, welcome back. This is the Prime Minister that we're seeing there, who made this statement saying that she was going to fight this leadership election," said Mr Boulton.

The camera then switches to show Mr Boulton, smiling, as he speaks outside the Palace of Westminster.

Mrs May today vowed to fight on as PM in the face of a leadership challenge.

She said she would contest her leadership "with everything I've got" after the vote was scheduled to take place this evening.

Sir Graham Brady confirmed that the vote will take place between 6pm and 8pm tonight.
