Sky News consumer affairs correspondent Poppy Trowbridge is leaving to become a special adviser to the chancellor, Philip Hammond.

In an email to colleagues at Sky, Trowbridge said: “I’ve decided to take up a position as special advisor to the chancellor of the exchequer.”

“It really has been an exceptional place to have spent the last four years. I feel very lucky.”

The Treasury confirmed that she would be joining as a special adviser, and would be starting shortly.

Trowbridge joined Sky News in 2012 from Bloomberg Television, where she covered finance and investing from London. Prior to that she was European mergers and acquisitions reporter and banking correspondent for Bloomberg News.

She follows former Sky News deputy political editor Joey Jones into the heart of government.

Jones became head of communications for Theresa May at the Home Office before she became prime minister. He is thought to have been offered a communications role at No 10, but has no current role on the press team.

May’s long-term advisor and now joint chief of staff, Fiona Hill, is also a former Sky journalist.
