Sky News may have to find a new City studio as soon as April after the landlord of London’s Gherkin looks to rent out the space.
It is understood that Sky News, who opened the studio in 2010 in order to bolster its business team’s relations with the key players in the City, has been given until April to negotiate with the Gherkin’s landlord Safra Group.
Sky News operates an annual lease at the building, which was due to expire at the start of next month, but it is understood that an extension has been agreed while negotiations continue about the possibility of staying or moving.
The office is home to weekday evening business show Ian King Live, which is broadcast from a studio on the 15th floor of the Gherkin, officially known as the Swiss Re building.
A spokesman for Sky News said it was in talks with the landlord and no decision had been made on the future of the studio.
It is thought that if Sky News does have to leave the Gherkin it will not look find another location in the City for the business team.
They would be moved to its Westminster location at Millbank Studios, which may make it trickier to attract some City guests.
