Sky News investigated after presenter swears live on air

Ian King (Sky News)

Sky News is being investigated by Ofcom because its presenter Ian King was heard saying the word "f**k" during a live interview.

The broadcasting watchdog's decision to investigate the incident comes despite it only receiving two complaints about the incident, which occurred while the business presenter was interviewing the economist Michelle Meyer on 30 July.

After introducing Meyer’s onto the show, an agitated King could be heard muttering “f**k” in the background.

He apologised after for using the expletive on Twitter in what he described as a  “Kenneth Tynan moment”. Tynan, a theatre critic and writer, was for a time believed to have been the first person to say "f**k" on British television.

A spokesperson for Ofcom confirmed it had received two complaints about the incident.

In a statement, it said: “Ofcom is investigating this programme, which included the most offensive language before the watershed.”
