Sky News' Colin Brazier divides parents as he chucks daughter's phone off balcony

Sky News presenter Colin Brazier told followers he had hurled his daughter's mobile phone off a balcony during an argument.

The 50-year-old dad-of-six shared a snap of the view from where he was standing, revealing that the phone was now somewhere in a nearby field.

He wrote:  “Somewhere in the field, off this balcony, is my teenage daughter’s recently-hurled smartphone.

“I’m sure a more constructive dialogue was possible, but sometimes following up on the parental threat simply has its own immutable logic.”

Many of Colin's 10,500 Twitter followers quickly flocked to commend him for following through on his threat, with many claiming his actions were relatable, and others even branding him a "hero".

"Colin - I once threw freshly baked muffins (for No 2 child’s birthday) off a balcony after some bad behaviour. Hysterics followed, but the lesson was learnt! # parentingistough," one wrote.

While another added: "Wow - my admiration for you just went up tenfold. Was that prefaced with 'you wouldnt'?"

A third chimed in: "Bravo..... I feel inspired".

However, the reception wasn't all positive.

"Way to teach your kid to be reactionary & destructive (to say nothing of wasteful)," another Twitter user wrote.

"This is a great way to teach her that hurling stuff in anger is the adult way to handle things. Constructive dialogue isn't worth pursuing when you can do this/go viral."

As another agreed: "Also going to buck the trend here and say that was an appalling thing to do.

"What if you’d hit someone walking below? You also just taught her that men are allowed to destroy her property when she doesn’t do what they want."

This isn't the first time a celebrity in the public eye has sparked a parenting debate, with Kirstie Allsopp even temporarily leaving Twitter after she received backlash for smashing her son's iPad because they spent too much time playing computer games.

Kirstie told Channel 5's Jeremy Vine that she demolished the tablets in June. “Not,” she hastened to add, “in a violent way.”

However, while some hailed the Location Location Location star, a great many people reacted angrily on social media, suggesting that Kirstie was being at best wasteful, and at worst cruel.
