'Sky is the limit' - Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony issues update on Siriki Dembele future

'The sky is the limit' for Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele.

That is the verdict of Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony who has backed the 24-year-old to be earning £20-30,000 per week when the Newcastle United -linked forward moves on from the club next summer.

Dembele rocked the League One outfit earlier this month when he handed in a transfer request but the relationship between chairman, club, player and agent has since been smoothed over.

MacAnthony doesn't expect Dembele, who has five goals and seven assists to his name this term, to leave the club this month but has backed him to 'cement himself as the best player in League One' before earning a lucrative move away from the London Stadium in the summer.

ARSENAL 3-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED - LEE RYDER'S VERDICT

"We have spoken to him, his family and his agent," MacAnthony told his 'Hard Truths' podcast.

"We have been fair with him. He has obviously been fair with us. My mission is to get him a move and play higher.

"I think he understands that won't happen in January because there is no money around. Like Ivan [Toney] last year we will probably wait until the summer.

"If he is firing on all cylinders like he has been in the past two games. He was sensational against Portsmouth and he was sensational last Saturday with two assists and he terrorised MK Dons.

"If he does that for the rest of the season that boy will be getting 20, 30 grand next summer so he needs to keep his head on.

"He is ready to go on that run and cement himself as the best player in League One - which I think he will do.

"His team-mates are behind him and I think as long as that attitude is there every game then the sky is the limit for that kid. He can play anywhere he wants."

Steve Bruce has been credited with an interest in the Peterborough United star and the Newcastle United boss was pictured taking in Crewe Alexandra's 2-0 win over Posh at Gresty Road alongside his son, Alex, back in November.

Newcastle are not likely to be too active in the transfer window this month but Bruce has hinted there are 'one or two things bubbling away' in previous press conferences.
