Sky is launching a new 'Brexit-free' TV news channel

Sky is launching a new TV news channel which promises to be 'Brexit-free'.

The pop up channel will be on air from tomorrow and will cover all aspects of the news - except Britain's impending departure from the European Union.

A recent study suggested that a third of people in the UK are avoiding the news entirely and more than 70 per cent of them blamed the political debate surrounding Brexit, according to Sky News.

The main Sky News channel will continue to cover Brexit, bosses say, but the additional channel will allow the public to "apply a filter" to the headlines they see.

John Ryley, the head of Sky News, said: "Sky News Brexit-Free is a bold approach but listening to public opinion over the past weeks and months, it's something we know our viewers will find valuable.

"Brexit is an historic story that has a major impact and we will continue to give it comprehensive coverage.

"The new channel simply gives people the option to take a break from Brexit, apply a filter to their headlines and hear about issues away from Westminster and Brussels with a focus on hard-hitting, original journalism."

The channel, Sky News: Brexit Free, will launch at 5pm on Wednesday (October 16) on Sky Channel 523.

It will be on-air from 5pm to 10pm Monday to Friday on TV and will also be live-streamed on the Sky News YouTube channel.
