Sky have just announced when you'll have to start paying your sports subscription again

Sky are in the process of un-pausing sports subscriptions as various clubs and events edge closer to returning to action.

The media giants confirmed in March that customers could pause their sports subscriptions given that they were unable to broadcast live action owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

It's meant that fans have saved money having missed out on watching the sporting elite on their screens, with Sky even allowing customers to continue to watch other programmes on the channels at no cost.

However, Sky look set to un-pause sports subscriptions in mid-June.

A Sky Community Manager wrote the following statement on the support section of the company's website on Tuesday morning: "We're in the process of un-pausing Sky Sports as we see more live sport return during June.

"Some of you will have noticed that we'll be restarting subscriptions from the 19th of June and we'll be making more information available shortly."

It comes after some customers revealed on the site's help forums that they had already been billed for the resumption of their sports packages as of June 19.

Premier League clubs returned to training last week while Championship sides resumed training on Monday as football appears to edge ever closer to continuing on these shores.

The top flight are aiming to return to action on the weekend of June 13, with the Championship hoping to resume a week later.

The 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign has already re-started while La Liga has been given the green light to continue in early June.

Some leagues - including the Scottish Premiership - have curtailed the 2019/20 seasons, meaning no action will take place until the next campaign.

“Many Sky Sports customers who paused their subscription when live action stopped in March may have been surprised to see payments reappear on their June TV bill," Nick Baker, TV expert at Uswitch.com, said.

“Sky says that customers won’t be charged anything before mid-June, but it’s naturally disappointing that some consumers have had to find out this way.

“What this does mean, and the good news for many sports fans, is that the Premier League is due to restart on June 19, although this is still subject to change. However, Sky Sports won’t be able to offer the depth and breadth of football, golf, cricket, F1 and other sports that fans expect for some time.

“Many customers may feel hard done by if they have to pay full price for a service that isn’t what they signed up for. If you are not happy, raise your concerns with Sky in the first instance.”

As for other sports, some snooker, golf and horse racing events have been pencilled in for next month while UFC contests have already been held behind closed doors.

In rugby union, all summer Tests have been postponed, including Wales' tour of Japan and New Zealand.
