Sky Glass broadband requirements confirmed amid worries over streaming service

Sky has revealed the minimum broadband speed required for the new Sky Glass service.

The TV company has launched a new TV that does not need a set top box or satellite dish to get access to Sky channels, streaming services and games consoles in a glitzy London ceremony.

Sky Glass is available in three sizes and five colours and can be bought outright or paid monthly from £13. The launch has been well received by customers but some have questioned if the stream will buffer because of the HD quality of the picture.

Sky has confirmed Glass will be available for broadband customers of Sky or any other broadband provider but says minimum broadband speeds of 10mbps will be required to avoid buffering or loss in picture quality.

Most major broadband providers offers 10mbps broadband options, which means Sky Glass should operate correctly on most packages. To find broadband comparison sites like Money Supermarket and Broadband Genie are a good place to start. Enter your postcode and compare the best deals in your area.

Sky says the new Sky Glass will be available from mid-October and unlike most TVs will operate on a subscription service. Sky says it will launch prices soon but starting subscriptions will be just £13 in the UK.

The £13 monthly cost is for the 43-inch version. The mid-range 55-inch version is £17 and the 65-inch set is £19 per month. You can buy them outright for £649, £849 or £1,049 depending on the size you choose.

You can order it here from 18 October.
