Sky F1 pundit points out "very odd" lack of Red Bull communication with Sergio Perez

Sky Sports Formula 1 pundit Anthony Davidson has questioned why Sergio Perez was left to "drive blind" at the Miami Grand Prix while Max Verstappen was given a constant stream of information.

Perez was in pole position for the race and had a great chance to take the lead in the title race with Verstappen ninth on the grid. But the Dutchman executed his race strategy perfectly to make sure he was on faster and newer tyres at the end of the race, and close enough to make the most of it.

So Verstappen won the race while Perez had to settle for second. But it was after the Grand Prix that Davidson reported something odd that he had heard while listening to the Red Bull airwaves in the closing stages.

"Really strange, listening to Perez's radio," the Sky pundit said. "They haven't told him anything about this fight between himself and Max. Whereas on Verstappen's side of the garage it has been constant.

"We've heard it coming through from his engineer, that constant check on the relative race gap between himself and his team-mate. So Perez has been out there, in a way, driving blind. Very odd. It has been too quiet on his radio."

Verstappen was rather pleased with himself after his flawless drive to victory. He said: "I always feel unbeatable but, sometimes, other people also have a really good day and they can be close to you or match you and be ahead.

"I think what is important is you try and be close to 100% perfect every single time. Yesterday [qualifying] wasn't perfect so, overall, this weekend wasn't perfect. But it's a long season, and I try to always be as close as possible to perfection."

Perez, frustrated with his tyres, was gracious in defeat to his team-mate. The Mexican said: "I tried, I gave it all. The first stint was really poor with the graining we had in that initial phase, and that compromised our race a lot. We didn't have too much of a difference on tyres and Max was particularly strong today, so a well deserved win for him.

"The medium initially was really poor, worse than expected. That really compromised our pace. And then I think Max had tremendous pace on the hard tyre and I need to analyse what went wrong today. We simply didn't have the pace."
