Sky bills to go up for millions of customers by up to £72

Sky customers are set to see their bills rise by up to £72 a year from April and May.

Millions of users across the country will see their TV and broadband bills go up from April 1, and their landline bills go up from May 1, reports The Mirror.

The average increase will be around £3 a month - but some face an increase of twice as much that will add up to £72 a year.

Customers will find out this week what their new bills are going to be - with around 8% of people hit by the maximum amount - that's around a million of its 12million UK subscribers.

Anyone who hasn't been contacted by the end of March is unlikely to see an increase.

Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Sky Kids and Sky Talk Evening and Weekends Extra customers won't be affected.

Sky Broadband Essential is one of the highest rising plans.

A Sky spokesperson told Mirror Money: "We know price increases are never welcome and we try to keep prices down whilst still delivering the content our customers love, the flexibility to choose the package that suits them and with leading customer service."

Those who are affected will be able to leave the provider penalty-free.

If you've completed the minimum term of your contract, you're free to haggle to switch away.

You will need to give 31 days' notice for TV packages and 14 days' notice for broadband and phone packages.

If you're in contract, you can exit your broadband deal penalty-free, however, you may have to pay a charge to escape your TV or broadband package.

To leave the provider or speak to Sky about lowering your deal, you'll need to have your price rise letter to hand. You then have 31 days to take action.
