Skunk Delays Game at Minor League Stadium for Second Time This Season

The Harrisburg Senators have a skunk problem.

Back in May, a game at the Nationals Double A affiliate’s home park was briefly delayed when a skunk made its way onto the field. Incredibly, the same thing happened again on Tuesday night. Even more incredibly, the Senators were playing the same team they were during initial skunk incident, the Bowie Baysox.

In the sixth inning, the skunk appeared on the field just behind first base and began ambling across the field, with players making sure to keep a safe distance. Two members of the Harrisburg grounds crew followed the animal trying to guide it off the field.

That’s a tough assignment for the two guys tasked with trying to get the skunk off the field. You have to be really cautious in coaxing it toward your desired destination. The last thing you want is to have the skunk feel irritated or threatened and then have it spray you.

The crew members were eventually able to guide the skunk off of the field, but the video ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. The animal made its way into the Baysox’ bullpen, which was enough of a resolution for the umpire to resume play, but clearly not the end of the danger for the Bowie pitchers. Hopefully they made it to the end of the game unscathed and unsprayed.
