Skull found by roadside is 'human remains' as Scots cops probe discovery

Scots police have confirmed a skull recently discovered in North Lanarkshire is in fact human remains.

We previously reported on Friday a concerned member of the public had found what appeared to be a skull in Motherwell.

Officers raced to the scene at the town's Bellshill Road in the early hours of Friday April 15, at around 5.30am.

Concerned locals say cops remained in the area for several hours as they investigated the ghastly find to determine whether the skull might have been 'fake' or 'a piece of missing memorabilia'.

However after an investigation, Police Scotland told the Record today the skull is indeed human remains.

A spokesperson said: “Around 5.30am on Friday, 15 April, police were called to Bellshill Road in Motherwell, after a member of the public discovered what appeared to be a skull.

"Following enquiries it has been confirmed as human remains.

"Enquiries are ongoing, however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”
