Skull and bones found in Bray recycling facility were 'medical specimens'

The skull and bones found at a recycling centre in Wicklow are "medical specimens" according to gardai who say they've been returned to their owner.

An investigation was launched yesterday after they were uncovered at the Greenstar recycling facility in Bray on Wednesday.

Detectives first kept all possibilities open - but quickly established that the items were being used for education and had been thrown out.

A garda spokesperson confirmed no offence is believed to have taken place and that the bones have been returned to their owner.

They said: "Following examination Garda are satisfied that these bones are medical specimens for the purpose of teaching/learning. They have been returned to their rightful owner. No offence disclosed."

In 2016, a full investigation was launched at the site in Fassaroe after a worker discovered the body of a stillborn baby girl.

The employee had been going through a pile of rubbish when he spotted what he first believed to be a doll.

It wasn't until he picked her up that he realised the harrowing discovery and a full investigation was launched.
