Skip Bayless doubles down on Dak Prescott comments, says criticism was ‘misconstrued’

FOX Sports personality Skip Bayless was rightfully ripped from all corners for his latest take on Undisputed.

On Thursday, after telling audiences to “go ahead and condemn” him and that he has “deep compassion for clinical depression,” he criticized Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott for publicly speaking about his depression in a recent interview with Graham Bensinger.

On Friday, instead of an apology for attacking someone for speaking out about their mental health struggles — which can only help the countless others who are also similarly suffering — he doubled down again.

“What I’m told I’m told was misconstrued by many, the only Dak depression I addressed on yesterday’s show was from an interview he taped with Graham Bensinger. Dak said that depression happened soon after the pandemic hit, early in the quarantine.

“I said yesterday, if Dak needed help for pandemic depression, he should have sought counseling then.”

First of all, splitting hairs about what Prescott was suffering over is another bad swing and a miss.

But no apology? No realization that he was wrong to publicly take down someone for bravely sharing their story? There’s no misconstruing going on here.

FOX Sports released this statement on Thursday about Bayless:

“At FOX Sports, we are proud of Dak Prescott for publicly revealing his struggle with depression and mental health. No matter the cause of the struggle, FOX Sports believes Dak showed tremendous courage which is evident in both his leadership on the Dallas Cowboys and in his character off the field. We do not agree with Skip Bayless’ opinion on Undisputed this morning. We have addressed the significance of this matter with Skip and how his insensitive comments were received by people internally at FOX Sports and our audience.”
