Skincare fridge craze sweeps the internet - but does chilling your products work?

There have been some wacky beauty trends around in recent months, but the newest one is mini fridges dedicated exclusively to storing beauty products.

It might sound a little excessive but at least this trend does stem from some old school wisdom.

You might remember your grandmother getting a pot of face cream out of the fridge and wondering why.

It's because chilling skincare was a popular thing to do back in their day, but they probably didn't have a whole mini cooler dedicated to all their lotions and potions.

The trend kicked off when US Youtuber Safiya Nygaard took to Twitter to share a snap of her mini fridge stocked with beauty products.

Beauty trends you'll actually want to wear - from glitter lids to fuchsia lips

After that, her followers were quick to appreciate the idea.

"This is something that everyone in the universe NEEDS in their lives," one Twitter used exclaimed, while another commented: "I had to explain to my mother tonight why I was looking for skin care mini fridges on Amazon."

One brand loving all the publicity is Nudie Glow , who stock some very chic beauty fridges.

There's a waiting list for them to restock at the moment but you can sign up online to get an update on when they launch.

Onto the real question, though - is a mini fridge just another social media trend that looks pretty in a stylised picture on Instagram , or does it actually serve a purpose?

There's truth to the idea that by applying a cool cream to your face, you'll probably experience a soothing effect - especially if you suffer from redness straight after cleansing.

You might also find that a cold product helps relieve puffiness and under eye bags, which is handy in a morning.

But there's no real evidence to say that fridging your creams will help boost the effects of the ingredients - unless your cream contains an active ingredient that needs to be fridged in order for it to stay active (for example, some probiotic lotions say to be stored in the cold).
