Skin related problems in women and how to treat them?

Women face many skin problems due to hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, menstrual cycle, etc. Some of the skin problems they face are very common but need immediate attention and treatment. Listed below are some common skin problems that women go through and we got in touch with Ajit Dalmia, Managing Director, Kelyn Naturals to share some details about the common skin ailments that women face.

1. Acne

Pregnancy and hormonal imbalances cause a lot of changes in the body, resulting in which women commonly face the problem of acne. Acne is caused by blocked hair follicles and oil glands of the skin, which are often triggered by hormonal changes. The term acne includes pimples, blackheads, cysts, and nodules.

It is essential to treat acne because, left untreated; it can lead to scars, dark spots, and marks. For moderate or severe acne, a dermatologist can use treatments like adapalene topical cream, tretinoin topical in the forms of cream, gels, lotions, and oral isotretinoin.

2. Sunburns

Sunburn is another prevalent yet very fatal problem that women face. Since women's skin is sensitive, it quickly gets affected by the sun's harmful UV rays. Therefore, to protect their skin from the sun, women are advised to apply sunscreen generously on the exposed areas of the body.

To treat sunburn, take a cool bath with a mild soap, keep your skin hydrated by drinking many fluids, and moisturize your skin with light oil-free moisturizers.

3. Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin problem with a chronic swelling of the face with redness, prominent blood vessels, and pimples. It is mainly common in women over the age of 30. It is caused by problems with the immune system, vein problems, or environmental issues.

Antibiotics, like metronidazole cream or oral doxycycline, can be used to treat rosacea. The azelaic acid gel can be used for inflamed pimples, beta-blockers, or acne drugs isotretinoin might be used.

4. Athlete's Foot

Feet are more prone to fungal infections because of their constant contact with sweat and dust particles. Symptoms of an athlete's foot include redness, itching, and cracked skin on the feet and in between the toes.

Topical antifungal treatments are available in creams and sprays to treat athlete's feet like:

- Lotrimin AF (clotrimazole)

- Lamisil AT (terbinafine)

- Micatin (miconazole)

For the infection to clear, it can take weeks, but if no improvement is seen, it is advised to go to a doctor.
