Skier attempts Guinness record skiing in 30 countries in 28 days

Father-of-two hopes to beat World Record by skiing in 30 countries in 28 days

In a remarkable display of determination and adventure, James Dick, a father-of-two, is on a mission to break a Guinness World Record by skiing in 30 different countries within just 28 days. This thrilling challenge has taken him across Europe, from snowy slopes in Germany to breathtaking landscapes in Norway and Iceland. With 20 countries under his belt already, James is well on his way to achieving his goal.

The current Guinness World Record stands at skiing in 17 countries within 21 days, but James is confident that he has surpassed this mark. As of Friday, he had already skied in an impressive 19 countries in just 12 days. While official confirmation is pending, he remains hopeful and determined to beat the record.

Beyond the excitement and adventure of this challenge, James is also using this opportunity to raise funds for two charities that are close to his heart. The National Brain Appeal and Saint Francis Hospice are the beneficiaries of his fundraising efforts, and he has already raised over £10,000, with a target of £15,000.

In an interview, James shared his motivation for taking on this daring adventure. He explained, 'I turned 50 in November and I always wanted to do something for charity, and these are two very close charities to my heart. They are probably two charities that don't get a lot of awareness and press, so someone has to fight their corner.'

Undoubtedly, this ambitious challenge has not been without its fair share of hurdles. James described the experience as hectic and super-tiring. Despite encountering issues such as lack of snow and travel restrictions, he remains undeterred. His meticulous planning and unwavering determination have kept him going.

Witnessing the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland was an unexpected turn of events for James. While he had initially planned for a relaxing day in Iceland, he woke up to the news of the eruption just 27 kilometers away. Not wanting to risk being stranded, he quickly adapted his plans and continued his journey. It was a surreal experience, but it did not slow him down.

With 10 more countries to go, including Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, and eventually finishing his challenge in Inverness, Scotland, on January 28, James is now setting up a base in Istanbul to facilitate his final push.

This incredible journey is a testament to James Dick's love for skiing and his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact. By pushing his limits and fundraising for these deserving charities, he is not just chasing a world record but also making a difference in the lives of others.
