Skerries rescue crew help rescue woman from sea following swimming accident off Termonfeckin beach

Lifeguards from Skerries and Clogherhead have pulled a woman from the Irish Sea in a swimming accident.

The woman, whose condition is not known at this time, was taken from the water off Termonfeckin Beach, near Drogheda in Co Louth.

Sources have said that a massive search operation was launched at 3pm and both Clogherhead and Skerries Lifeboats were involved in the operation.

The Dublin based Rescue 116 Coastguard helicopter was also sent to the scene.

A source said: "The helicopter and lifeboats were patrolling off the beach and the crew of Rescue 116 spotted the woman in the water.

"They took her from the tide and brought her to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Her condition is not known at present." 

Earlier the Irish Mirror reported that there was a giant tide of jelly fish in the area.

A large number of jellyfish have been pictured washed up on an Irish beach.

The bloom of jellyfish are seen nestled in the sand on Termonfeckin Beach in Co Louth.
