Skerries homeowners have lucky escape as discarded cigarette sets attic on fire

The occupants of a house in north Dublin had a very lucky escape when a discarded cigarette caused their attic to go up in flames.

The home in Skerries was set ablaze on Monday evening with a fire outside the house spreading to the fascia and soffit before raging through the attic.

Dublin Fire Brigade raced to the scene and managed to successfully battle the blaze.

Luckily, the homeowners weren't injured in the terrifying incident.

DFB tweeted: "In Skerries on Monday evening, Firefighters prevented a home from being destroyed after a fire outside spread to the facia and soffit and further in to the attic.

"It is thought a discarded cigarette caused waste to catch fire. There were no injuries to the home owners."
