Skeleton kayaking is an activity that has gained popularity on a beach in Miura, Kanagawa Prefecture, as people refrain from taking long trips and opt for marine leisure activities closer to home during the coronavirus pandemic.
The skeleton kayak is a plastic transparent boat that allows riders to see underwater and have a clearer view of schools of fish and jellyfish. The kayak measures 340 centimeters long and 90 centimeters wide.
Misaki Kanko, a group company of Keikyu Corp., began the kayaking activity on Aug. 1 at Doami Beach in the city, where the water is generally clear and calm.
"There is something indescribably fun about it that you won't understand until you do it," said Keisuke Urushiyama, 36, an official of the company. "I want people to enjoy the rich nature in Miura, which isn't that far from central Tokyo."
The leisure activity is offered through Sept. 30.
