'Skeletal remains' found in home as housing staff member forces way inside

The body of person was found at a home after staff members from a housing association had to force their way inside.

Employees from Bolton at Home made the grim find after they visited the property in Hemsworth Road, Bolton, on Thursday, March 9.

Police were called to the scene after the tragic discovery, with an official spokesman confirming "skeletal remains" had been found inside.

It's thought the gruesome find, and circumstances around the person's death, isn't being treated as suspicious, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Bolton at Home chief executive Noel Sharpe explained: "On Thursday, March 9, one of our staff members discovered a body at one of our properties in Hemsworth Road, Halliwell, after gaining entry to the property.

"We are working with police and the coroner’s office to assist with investigations into the circumstances surrounding this incident and are unable to comment further while these investigations take their course.

"We’re saddened by what’s happened and know this may be very upsetting for people living nearby. We will offer as much support as we can and encourage anybody with any concerns to contact us on 01204 328000."

A file and details surrounding the death have been passed on to the coroners' office by police.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "GMP received a call to an address on Hemsworth Road in Bolton at approximately 10.50am on Thursday 9 March 2023, to reports of a deceased body.

"Sadly, skeletal remains were found inside the property. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances."

One couple, who didn't want to be named, said they moved in two years ago and were told the man at the property in question comes and goes and they may not see him, BoltonNews reports.

The woman said: “It was just bones. We can’t understand has no one done a welfare check.

“Gas safety checks in the tenancy have to be done every year. We can’t sleep.

“No one has come back to check on us, they all left on Thursday.”
