Skegness Aquarium's popular mermaid show is returning this summer

A mermaid show is making a comeback to Skegness Aquarium this summer after it was hit with holidaymakers last year.

Aquatic fans will have the chance to see the mythical creatures in action every Thursday as they once again put on a magical show.

The organisers are yet to release the exact date for the first show, but have said more information will released in the coming weeks, LincolnshireLive reports.

On the aquarium website, it says: "In folklore, a mermaid is an aquatic creature with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish.

You can now see a mermaid at Skegness Aquarium (Skegness Aquarium)

"Mermaids are sometimes associated with perilous events such as floods, storms, shipwrecks, and drownings. In other folk traditions (or sometimes within the same tradition), they can be benevolent or beneficent, bestowing boons or falling in love with humans.

"Reports of mermaid sightings continue to the present day, including 21st-century examples from Israel, Zimbabwe, and Skegness Lincolnshire."

News of the return has already sparked excitement in the community and among those looking to travel to the seaside town.

One social media user said: "The mermaid is amazing - we saw her a few weeks ago. It's amazing for kids."

Another tagged a friend, saying: "Can we have a day trip to Skegness please?"

If mermaids aren't quite your speed, you can go on Wednesday instead, where visitors are treated to a pirate show featuring 'the most fearsome pirate of the seven seas Long John Silver'.

This runs from July 17 until August 21 and the show is included in every general admission ticket.
