Skateboarder hit by car, critically hurt in Geneva

File photo

A 73-year-old driver blamed poor lighting after he struck and critically injured a skateboarder Sunday evening in west suburban Geneva.

The 23-year-old skateboarder was struck about 8:10 p.m. in the 1500 block of Crissey Avenue, also known as Route 25, according to a statement from Geneva police.

Witnesses said they saw the skateboarder going south in the road, police said. After the crash, the skateboarder was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where he had life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver stated he “did not see the skateboarder due to the darkness along that stretch of roadway.”

Police said no charges have been filed against the driver. The investigation was ongoing, police said.
