Skate was officially released in Early Access on September 16, 2025. It was quite a successful release with over 80K players tuning in during the release day, and that number quickly went up to 130K in the next few weeks.
The game was averaging 65-70K players during September. However, the decline soon started in October, and the game lost a lot of players after Season 1. Currently, Skate has lost over 80% of its players on Steam since launch.
There are many reasons why players are not playing the game. From performance issues, lack of content, to the game just getting boring, there are many reasons.
Why Is Skate Losing Players?

When it comes to skate, the content and the world have always been the point of most complaints. The skating itself was just like the previous games, if not better. But the game lacked the world and the content to keep you skating.
Skate Season 1 was supposed to bring fresh new updates to the map and more content, in general. While it did fulfil its promises, the content grew old very quickly. The updated locations were decent at best, and players got bored really quickly. But the main criticism and probably the reason for the low player count is the performance issues Season 1 brought.
The game feels choppy, struggles with frame rates, and crashes frequently. All of this makes for a poor experience, and the lack of content doesn’t help it either.
But, even if you set these issues aside, the core gameplay loop of Skate gets boring. You can’t play the game for more than an hour before it starts to get stale. And, most of that is because the game is not yet finished. The game is in Early Access and is not going to be released anytime soon.
With limited events, repetitive challenges, and little incentive to explore beyond the same handful of spots, players are finding fewer reasons to log back in each week.
